Meditation is the conscious development of the inherent cognitive and perceptual powers of the mind. Medication is an exercise which was traditionally used as a means of spiritual growth. Though it has not lost its origninal meaning, its newfound usage is for relaxation and stress relief. Meditation embraces more than one technique.
All techniques are directed towards the growth and development of calming of the mind, reduction of stress, compassion, love, kindness, realization of truth and above all a healthy sense of well being. Depending on which facutly or quality a person wants to develop, meditaiton is of various types. Each meditaiton is for the devlopment of a specific purpose. Meditation involves direct our attention to some object. The object can be anything, anything that has meaning for you. People use range of things to focus their attention on, ranging from images, sounds, smell, to breath, emotional association with oneself.
