Addiction is abnormal dependence on something that is psychologically, physically and emotionally habit forming. When dependence on substances such as alcohol, drugs, gambling starts dominating your daily life and activities and despite many promises and attempts people are defenseless towards stopping them, then
the addiction has reached dangerous heights.
Addictions are mainly for activities and behaviors which provide people a way to escape life and its problems. These activities and
behaviors include drugs, alcohol, food, sexual activities, gambling and even shopping or spending. When a person is addicted to something, they have an intense craving for it and want to do it repeatedly. And inability to do that activity leads to horrid physical consequences. An addict has an compulsive urge to continue with the addiction without having any regard for the negative social, psychological and physical results.
Addiction is a growing problem. Though not everyone has a tendency to become an addict, the risk is prevalent. Drug and alcohol abuse is more prevalent among young people. Interestingly many people are caught in subtle addictions which are not that visible but affect us as negatively as other more obvious addictions.
Addictions are treatable conditions. It may seem difficult to break the circle of addiction and more rightly it is, but it's not at all impossible to treat it. A strong support system involving your doctor, family, friends, support groups and medical treatment can help one overcome any addiction. With the right rehabilitation
program, addiction will cease to exist.
Nobody intends to become an addict. No one starts out to get into such habits intending it to become destructive to themselves and their loved ones.
This is fundamental to start understanding a person who is an addict. If a person was to understand the vast negative impact of alcohol, drug and other form of addictions, none of them would ever take upon this burden.
